Promoting Directories

I have wanted to write some great tips for promoting directories for a while, so I will start now. One excellent way to get instant traffic to you directory is to submit it to DirectoryCritic.com. They accept free submissions, and in return you just have to leave them a featured link on your directory. I find that I get traffic almost instantly from doing this, and for a good directory the traffic will stay.
Another great way to promote your directory is to get links from other sites, especially directories. Check out DirectoryTopsites.com. It is a great way to get a free PR4 link for your directory. You have to post a some code on your website which will display your rank in the directory topsite. You can also make a custom banner for your directory that will appear on the topsite page. I usually just use my directory’s header image and scale it down to the appropriate size.A final tip for promoting your directory is to post links to it in webmaster forums; Digital Point is a good one.
